Episode 1. Inferno
📖 Episode Summary
The story begins with a team of four mercenaries attempting a jewel heist. Just as things begin, they're interrupted by a large, talking rabbit in an Easter vest — the White Rabbit, who claims to be the one who hired them. He mocks their greed and shortsightedness, revealing that the true prize isn't the jewels, but something far more powerful: the Force Edge, the legendary sword of the demon knight Sparda. Ironically, this weapon lies hidden within the Vatican, the holiest of places. The White Rabbit ridicules humanity's fear-driven savagery and suggests that "hell" has always been at the center of human faith. He references the start of a new era — the Age of the Demon, claiming the world is about to get far bigger, though "not for you," implying the mercenaries' deaths. Meanwhile, Dante makes his entrance in the middle of a street commotion. He saves a young girl and her mother from three minor demons and defeats them in stylish fashion. However, an odd moment follows — the baby the woman was holding is not actually human. Dante realizes something is wrong, but the child vanishes before he can act. On the political front, a catastrophic bombing at the Vatican shocks the world. News reports show a mysterious humanoid figure with wing-like protrusions escaping the scene. Speculation abounds — from terrorist demons to radical leftists, and even Russian black-tech operatives. But the truth is far stranger. The U.S. government, along with a secretive agency known as Dark Realm Command (DarkCom), begins investigating. Dr. Fischer, a theoretical physicist, confirms the existence of demons as a parallel evolutionary offshoot of humanity. A quantum interference field has long sealed the rift between the worlds, but it's breaking down, allowing lower-level demons to slip through. Larger, more dangerous ones are still trapped — for now. Evidence surfaces pointing to the Sparda Sword as a quantum decoder, with two matching amulets functioning as transmitters to either open or close the interdimensional portal. The White Rabbit already possesses one, and is seeking the other. We also learn that the White Rabbit personally selected Dante for a recent hunt — and paid Enzo, a shady broker, to recruit him. Dante is noted to have gone AWOL on five prior jobs simply because he "got bored." Yet now, he may be the only one capable of stopping the apocalypse. The episode closes with soldiers discussing a failed mission to track the White Rabbit. Only one survivor remains — wounded, clawed by the rabbit itself — and delivers a grim message: The Rabbit is angry. He failed to get the second amulet, but he's going to try again… soon.
